Why the Moon leads
Western astrology headlines the Sun - the self you grow into. Vedic astrology begins with the Moon: the mind, the emotional weather, the way a day actually feels. Your chandra rashi (moon sign) is the sign the Moon occupied at your birth, and it's the anchor for daily readings, dashas, and matching.
The Moon changes signs roughly every two and a quarter days, so knowing your birth date - and ideally time - matters more here than in sun-sign astrology.
Why your sign may "change"
Vedic charts use the sidereal zodiac, anchored to the fixed stars; Western charts use the tropical zodiac, anchored to the seasons. The two currently differ by about 24 degrees - so many people discover their Vedic sun or moon sign sits one sign earlier than the one they grew up reading. Nothing changed in the sky; only the map did.
